Vehicle Air Filters
Vehicle Air Filters
Often, the Engine Air and Oil Filters come to mind when discussing your vehicle’s filters. However, there are some other filters that should be maintained also. Here is quick rundown of the Filters your vehicle is likely to have and their purpose:
- Engine Air Filter. This filter keeps the air coming into your vehicle’s engine clean and dust free, preventing excessive wear and damage to sensitive engine components. Air filters should be inspected at each oil change and more often in dry, dusty climates. A dirty air filter can hurt engine performance and reduce fuel economy.
- Cabin Air Filter. The function of a Cabin Air Filter is essentially the same as the HVAC filter in your home. It works as a part of your vehicle’s Air Conditioner and Heater to keep the interior air clean and dust free. These should be serviced per your vehicle manufacturer’s recommended service intervals or more often in dry, dusty climates. Note that not all vehicles have a Cabin Air Filter. When you have your vehicle serviced by Road Runner Lube and Tune, we can check this for you!
- Fuel Filter. As the name implies, this filter helps prevent contaminants that can be damaging to your vehicle’s fuel injectors and other relevant components from entering the fuel system. I clogged fuel filter can cause poor engine performance and possibly even damage. Not all vehicles have a serviceable fuel filter however.
- Oil Filter. Engine oil is vital to your vehicle’s engine and it must be kept as clean as possible. This is the purpose of the oil filter, which should be changed at EVERY oil change service.
