When To Get This Service
Have your transmission inspected at the first sign of trouble—early repair prevents costly internal damage.
Schedule a transmission check if you notice:
- Gears slipping or engine revving without acceleration
- Hesitation, jerking, or rough shifts between gears
- Clunking, humming, or whining noises while driving
- Reddish or dark fluid leaking under the vehicle

- Transmission or check engine light illuminated
Road Runner recommends changing automatic transmission fluid every 30,000–60,000 miles and manual transmission fluid every 60,000–100,000 miles, following the guidelines in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.

When should you change your transmission fluid?
To protect your transmission and ensure smooth operation, we recommend a transmission flush every 30,000 miles.
What transmission do I have?
Manual vehicles use a clutch to connect and disconnect the transmission to the engine by the use of a pedal next to the brake pedal. If you are required to shift the vehicle yourself, your transmission is manual. Otherwise, your vehicle is likely an automatic or CVT. To confirm your transmission type, refer to the owner’s manual or check just inside the driver’s side door to locate a white sticker. The sticker contains specific details on your vehicle including the year it was produced, transmission type, engine specifications, and other pertinent information. If you are unable to locate the information for your vehicle, contact a Road Runner and provide your VIN or license plate number and we’ll be able to inform you what kind of transmission your vehicle has.
